      @@jade8538 there is curated Berlin Orch expansion for MuseScore that has been ported over from Staffpad. It’s a fraction of the memory footprint as the full blown libraries and has all articulation mappings built in. It’s currently on for $10 per orchestra choir until end of this month. No brainer. A very cool sketch David! I love the percussive 'motor' you establish in the piece. A quick question (or clarification) re the sounds: did you simply load in Spitfire strings, Berlin Brass/Winds and CinePerc samples as VSTs into MuseScore (MS)? I ask because I too use MS and have tried loading Spitfire's BBC Symph. Orch. (BBCSO) into MS as a VST, but upon playback I've encountered wild inconsistencies with articulations and dynamics. Have you run into any of those issues? Thx!

    • @soundtreks
      @soundtreks Місяць тому

      Thanks Jade! Yes, MuseScore playback requires a fair bit of taming and even still, I have to make compositional choices that I normally wouldn't if I were working in Dorico with NotePerformer. But I like the sonic splendour that MS 4 offers, especially in cases where it's not assured I will get my music played by an orchestra. I have the sound expansions for these libraries offered via MuseHub rather than using the full libraries from Kontakt, SINE, or MUSIO. The benefit of the bespoke editions is that they are all pre mapped. Just plop notes in, articulations and dynamics and you are set. :)

    • @jade8538
      @jade8538 29 днів тому

      @@soundtreks Thx for the info! So, just to be clear -- it sounds like you used a combination of MS 4's 'MuseSounds', in addition to loading in Spitfire strings, Berlin Brass/Winds and CinePerc samples as VSTs for certain instruments. Is that correct?

    This sounds really good (orchestration and playback). I'm looking at Musescore too but I'm getting pretty fast with Dorico so there's not much friction when it comes to composing. However to have StaffPad type playback would be quite satisfying as I'm writing.

    • @soundtreks
      @soundtreks Місяць тому

      I love Dorico Pro and use it for all my commissions. I rely on NotePerformer because it provides the best preview of proper orchestra balance. My last piece sounded very close to the NP mock up which tells me it is doing something right. I use MuseScore Studio and its sounds mostly for this kind of writing because it's what I like to compose and I haven't found an easy way of attaining these sounds in Dorico even with NPPE. But MS is slower to move around on than Dorico and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I tend to write pieces in MuseScore that I don't think I will get a live performance so I want better mock up/performance. If any of my pieces were to be requested to be performed, they would be imported into Dorico for engraving.

    This was beyond pathetic. What does the Dorico Logo Signify? Where's the MuseScore Logo? Where does one start and the other end? There are 24 Bowing techniques. WTF does "I wanted to get the effect of open string strumming but MuseScore wouldn’t play back pizz strings with an arpeggio" even mean? "Seems like there is no perfect playback/performance solution just yet" Duh. Brilliant. What planet are you from, Einstein? Getting Notation / Engraving software asymptotic to a DAW environment is a long way from today. I used Musescore for 4 1/2 years. Are you reading the Issue Blogs? Musesounds (their "VST" library) blows. Strings and Winds are horrid. Anything beyond Legato is a joke. Musecore - by their own admission- had an opportunity to integrate With NotePerformer, but chose not to. HUGE mistake. Now users are directed to GitHub for playback issues. Virtually NONE are getting resolved. Just purchased Dorico 5 and NotePerformer 4. That combination blows Musescore 4.X completely out of the water. Short of DAW composing, nothing - absolutely nothing - compares.
